The next generation of Wushu and Tai Chi athletes take centre stage in Tianjin, China

The prestigious World Junior Wushu Championships has arrived in Tianjin, marking its 10th edition and bringing together the world’s most promising young athletes in Wushu and Tai Chi.

First established in 2006 by the International Wushu Federation, the championships have grown into the highest-level international competition for junior athletes, featuring a wide range of disciplines including Tai Chi (Taijiquan and weapon forms), as well as Wushu hand routines and weapon events such as straight sword, broadsword, staff, and spear.

This year’s event carries even greater significance, as Wushu will feature in the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026. The competition in Tianjin serves as a key qualification pathway, offering an exciting opportunity for young athletes to qualify for the Youth Olympics and inspiring communities around the world to follow their journey.

We are especially proud that Huicong Liu, China Spirit UK instructor and daughter of Master Xingbo Liu, is officiating at the championships as a judge for the first time at this prestigious event. This marks an important milestone as she steps into the next stage of her Wushu career.

Great Britain is proudly represented by Kehan Chan, the nation’s sole athlete at this year’s championships. Competing among the world’s elite juniors, Kehan has achieved an impressive 4th place in Daoshu (broadsword) in his age category, narrowly missing the podium and demonstrating a strong performance on the world stage.

We congratulate Kehan on this excellent result and wish Huicong every success in her judging role in Tianjin.
